Term 3 Sport

Early next term we have the EZ Hockey, BS and EZ Gymnastics and EZ Netball (details are paged). The Ski Team trials will also be starting. Later on in the term we have the skiing, BS and EZ basketball, our own fund-raising cross country (plus the BS and EZ championships), rounded off with the Girls cricket!

Let's get these kids active! The gym entries close on Friday and this event cannot go ahead without parental help. Email Antony at antonyp@parnell.school.nz if you can assist with any of these fixtures.

Bay Suburbs Netball Tournament

Thanks to the teachers, parents and students who made the Bay Suburbs Netball Tournament run so smoothly on Wednesday.

A great result for the Kay Marshall coached Year 5 team, who showed tremendous character and spirit to fight back from 4-3 down to win the final, we are all very proud of them. The team they beat in the final currently play in Section 1 in the Year 5 Grade, so the girls should be very proud of their achievement.

All other teams represented the school well but a special mention needs to go to those students who had never played netball before. Well done for giving it a go!

Parnell hosted 11 schools, 60 teams and 580 players, on what was a very successful day only dampened slightly by the weather. Thanks again to the parents and caregivers for their work prior and during the tournament.

Bay Suburbs Rugby

A huge disappointment for the students who travelled all the way to Point England only to discover the tournament had been cancelled! Thanks to the parents who drove all the way there and back.

We are hoping that next year more Year 5 and 6 students will put their names and weights down for rugby, so we can enter a 10 a side full tackle team.

Football Results

The Bay Suburbs Tournament at Madill's Farm saw our Year 6 Boys come within 2 goals of the outright win, for a very respectable 2nd place.

Our Year 6 Girls were 4th and our mixed team of Year 5 and 6 Girls were 3rd on point differential.

Thanks to the parents who came along to support and supervise teams, we hope to go one better next year.

In the Eastern Zone tournaments held at Sacred Heart the competition was fierce! The Year 8 Boys placed a very respectable 6th from 15 teams, while the Year 7 Boys battled to a 7th placing against the 12 teams in their grade.

Unfortunately for the Girls rain prevented their tournament from going ahead.

Softball

Congratulations to those students that attended the Bay Suburbs and Eastern Zones Softball Tournaments. In three hectic days of competition our best result was achieved by the Year 5 Girls who remain undefeated and winners of their Zone!

Other notable results were Parnell Year 6 Girls - 2nd, and Year 7 Girls 3rd. Clearly the Boys have got a lot to learn from the Girls!

Thanks also to the parents who assisted and supported. We had 1 at the Bay Suburbs Tournament and at least 3 at both the Intermediate Tournaments.
